{"id":12829,"date":"2021-11-03T16:16:27","date_gmt":"2021-11-03T20:16:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cfsri.org\/?p=12829"},"modified":"2021-11-03T16:16:27","modified_gmt":"2021-11-03T20:16:27","slug":"the-time-to-act-and-invest-in-children-is-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/childrensfriendri.org\/2021\/11\/03\/the-time-to-act-and-invest-in-children-is-now\/","title":{"rendered":"The Time to Act and Invest in Children is Now."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This morning, Rhode Island Executive Office of Health and Human Services\u2019 Secretary Womazetta Jones hosted a roundtable discussion at Children\u2019s Friend, with pediatricians, legislators, and community and state partners regarding Governor Dan McKee\u2019s Rhode Island Rebounds plan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was particularly impactful to hear first-hand from pediatricians and early interventionists how the pandemic has impacted their kids and families.\u00a0 The pandemic has resulted in fewer children being seen for pediatric and preventative care, immunizations, and critical developmental screens.\u00a0 When a developmental concern is identified, the workforce staffing crisis has made access to early intervention services unattainable for children, especially children of color.\u00a0 Without these critical services, children are at risk for poor outcomes in health, development, and lower academic achievements, and these negative effects can last a lifetime.\u00a0 As Nobel Prize winner James Heckman has said: \u201cEarly experiences can translate into school readiness, academic success, and lifetime well-being. Success builds upon success.
